It is vitally important with windmills to ensure that the painted exterior surfaces are in good condition and are protected with a good coat of paint. Not only does this improve the appearance of the mill, but it's also key to maintain the integrity of the fibre of the mill building underneath. A good exterior coat is used to waterproof the tower.
Where possible, traditional coatings are applied. However, compliance with current regulations will be adhered to throughout. We keep up to date with the latest alternatives where certain products are no longer legal to use.
Interior decoration of mills is also critical. Due to the waterproofing on the exterior, it is essential to ensure that moisture is effectively controlled to help prevent premature rot. Therefore, the interior decoration of mills is performed using traditional limewash which will allow the masonry of the mill to breath.
J McGuinness Millwright Ltd can provide advice and remedial work to address decorating requirements both on the interior and exterior of mills.
