I became interested in mills at 4 years old after a visit to a local windmill.
I learned the trade initially as a miller from some of the last commercial millers in the country; namely, William Heathershaw at North Leverton; Frank Mettam at Ollerton Watermill and Fred Banks at Alford Windmill.
At the age of 14, I began volunteering with the Lincolnshire mills group, undertaking repairs on mills. I also began volunteering to work mills on various open days and public events.
Over the years, I have volunteered at many windmills and enjoyed the excellent experience and wealth of knowledge of James Waterfield at Maud Foster Windmill and Fari and Paul Wyman at Tuxford Windmill.
My background, therefore, is in commercial milling.
I have been involved in mill restorations and worked closely with Neil Medcalf of Traditional Millwrights since 2010.
More recently, I have worked directly alongside, the incredibly experienced, Steven Boulton and Neil Medcalf at Traditional Millwrights Ltd, in many varied projects on a wide variety of mills across the country. I still work closely alongside S Boulton and Sons Ltd, benefiting from their extensive experience as consultant millwrights.
